Members of the public can read and download current legislation by going to the official State Senate website at www.oksenate.gov and following the link for legislation at the top of the homepage.

In addition, free computer training will be offered to anyone interested in learning how to track legislation online. The training session can be viewed on the Senate’s official website at www.oksenate.gov.

The 2008 legislative session will officially get underway on Monday, February 4. The Senate offers streaming audio and video from the Senate Chamber, as well as from committee rooms 419-C and 511-A. Wireless Internet access is available to all Capitol visitors throughout the Senate gallery, rotunda, committee rooms, offices and press rooms.

Message Please protect our Oklahoma Scenic Rivers and lakes from poultry and hog farm waste. Please vote for clean, safe water. Our Oklahoma Scenic Rivers including the Illinois River and Barren Fork Creek need setback protection from new and expanding poultry farms. In addition, adjoining landowners deserve an opportunity for a public hearing on new and expanding poultry growing operations. How to send a letter to the editor (Muskogee Phoenix and many other newspapers)

The Phoenix invites you to send a letter to the editor on any topic of community interest.

Letters should be limited to 350 words, and they must include the address and telephone number of the writer.

Anonymous letters will not be published.

Letters addressing public issues take priority. They will be edited, if necessary, for style, accuracy and space limitations, and contributors may appear only once every 30 days.

Thank you letters appear each Saturday, and they must be received at the Phoenix by noon Thursday to appear the following Saturday. Thank yous should be limited to 100 words.

Guidelines for Your Views

What we require
1. Letters of 225 words or less.
2. A full name and complete postal address, including zip code, must accompany your letter. (This is needed for verification. Your address won't be published.)
3. "Name withheld" letters are not accepted. Nor are letters signed only with initials or a first initial and last name.
4. E-mailed letters cannot be sent as attachments.
5. Authors are limited to one letter every 28-42 days, depending on volume.
6. When referring to a news story or previous letter published in Your Views, cite the headline or letter writer's name and the date of publication.
