Ed Fite Appointment to OWRB

I'm cc'ing this list the letter of recommendation that I e-mailed to Senator Jim Wilson and to the Senate Energy & Environment Committee Members today. I don't have Ed Fite's address, but maybe he will see it here. Kathy Tibbits Ed Fite Recommendation Dear Senator Jim Wilson and the Senate Energy & Environment Committee: I have known Ed Fite since 1979, when as an OU Political Science student, I wrote a study on the history and politics of the Oklahoma Scenic River designation of the Illinois River. In the past 26 years, I have known him to be a man of unimpeachable character in every regard. He has admirably balanced the diversity of stakeholders in the Illinois River basin. His "whole system" approach has been beneficial in developing the economic viability of recreation and ecotourism in the Illinois River basin, for which all the residents of the river basin owe him thanks. It is our regional economic mainstay. There may be special interests who have found it expedient in Northwestern Arkansas to externalize the costs of conducting their business, expecting a "free ride" in Oklahoma as well, who would benefit personally by public officers who deregulate water and waste streams. But today clean surface and ground water is an essential public good, and it is the state's role to protect public goods for everyone to use. This is why water protection is so important. As our population grows and the pressure continues to increase for the water needs of Oklahoma, we will look back at the decisions which have been made to adequately plan for meeting public demands for water. I can think of no one in this state who would do a better job of fairly and impartially balancing the public good for Oklahoma than Ed Fite. He is bright, hard-working, honest and knowledgeable. I hope he is appointed to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. Kathy Tibbits formerly Kathy Carter-White Route 1, Box 130 Stilwell, OK 74960 918-696-3175

Good letter Kathy.

Let's keep the pressure on even though I got the following news from the Capitol Wed. afternoon:

The resolution failed to get enough votes this morning

It failed 19-11

It could well be held over

It needs 25 votes to pass
