Where poultry pollution is worse

The popular argument fron the poultry industry is that they are unfairly being singled out, and that other sources of pollution to the river, such as septic tanks, urban development and sewage plants are as much a problem. This article demonstrates that that argument does not hold water.
According to the informative article from the Washington Post, there's a 4 fold increase of nitrogen contribution from poultry waste than from leaky septic tanks and urban development, and there is a 3 fold increase of phosphorus readings from the poultry areas versus the sewage plants.
Moreover, our own USGS studies indicate that a great majority of the pollution to the Illionis River is from runoff.
