Removing poultry waste helps water quality
Tulsa's court victory over poultry companies led to controls on chicken waste application. The good news is that more waste is being removed. The bad news is that it may be many years before excess phosphorus in soils is no longer a threat...3/27/09

"One tributary to Spavinaw Creek is improving, according to the Oklahoma Conservation Commission. The commission in January said water samples from Beaty Creek show its phosphorus levels dropped by 66 percent. The commission identified the transportation of poultry litter outside the watershed as one factor in the improvement."...news article.

Farmers cut litter by 75%

"Research by the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville shows farmers cut the use of poultry litter as crop fertilizer by 75 percent in the Eucha-Spavinaw watershed over four years."
